Consumer alert:

We've discovered after two months of scrutiny that in fact USPS eBillPay is not exclusively a Bill Manager, in as much as the mechanism of fund management. We discovered on Nov. 5, 2000 that USPS eBillPay and CheckFree will debit the customer's checking account and mail a check drawn on the CheckFree checking account in violation of the consumer agreement. Where USPS eBillPay and CheckFree do not have an EFT relationship, USPS eBillPay and CheckFree will debit the customers account for the amount designated, deposit the funds in an unsecured account at CheckFree, issue a check to the Biller drawn on the CheckFree account and mail the check to the Biller. In violation of the consumer agreement and in contradiction with the stated policies, USPS eBillPay and CheckFree have explicitly misrepresented their service.
